Japanese Army Personal Shovel Cover
WWII Japanese Army personal shovel cover, clearly dated 1943 and preserved in true new old stock condition. This example comes from a larger grouping I acquired in Japan many years ago and has remained untouched since.
Early‑war covers produced for operations in China typically used leather retention straps, but those proved unreliable in tropical climates. By mid‑war, the Army shifted to a more durable, necessity‑driven design using canvas construction with webbing straps—exactly the configuration seen on this piece.
Authentic mid‑war shovel covers are getting increasingly difficult to track down, especially with clear dates and no postwar wear.
